A complete redesign from Tailfin
The freshly unveiled Tailfin Journey Rack takes over from the Alloy Rack. Launched eight years ago, the older model gives way to a completely reinvented version. The goal? To offer a genuinely universal rack suited to the needs of today’s cyclists.
An essential aspect of this new design is compatibility with different types of bike, including full-suspension mountain bikes. Thanks to its tri-pivot structure, the rack adapts to the frame’s movements, offering a flexibility not found on traditional models.
Technical features and innovations
Among the many improvements, the quick-release fittings have been redesigned for greater strength and ease of use. The upper platform, made from anodised 6061-T6 aluminium, measures 33 × 10 cm and can support a load of up to 32 kg.
One practical advantage of the Journey Rack is the ability to remove the rear wheel without taking the rack off. That makes changing a wheel easier in the event of a puncture, an asset on far-flung adventures.
Two versions for maximum compatibility
The Tailfin Journey Rack comes in two configurations. The version with pannier mounts weighs 740 g and supports up to 32 kg. For those looking to save weight, a version without pannier mounts is available, weighing 580 g with a capacity of 22 kg.
On the compatibility front, the rack works not only with Tailfin bags but also with panniers from other brands such as Ortlieb and Vaude, offering great versatility.
Price and availability
Despite its premium quality, the Journey Rack sits within the usual price range for this type of product. The base version is available at €180, while the one with mounts is €230. It falls in the same price bracket as rivals such as Old Man Mountain’s Divide.
Among the additional accessories, a mudguard and a light mount are available at €20 each, and a mount for a Garmin Varia or Wahoo Trackr radar is offered at €30.
