COROS Dura 2 Solar: a solar GPS bike computer with voice control, from €499

IN BRIEF

COROS is updating its GPS bike computer. The Dura 2 Solar moves to a 3.5-inch screen, which the brand says is 30% larger than the original Dura’s, and adds voice control with a microphone and speaker. COROS claims 120 hours of battery life on one charge, plus 2 hours gained per hour of full sunlight thanks to its solar panel, for 99 grams. The brand’s European store lists it from €499 (without mount) to €549.

The Dura 1 was all about endurance. The COROS Dura 2 Solar keeps that idea and changes much of the rest: a bigger screen, redesigned controls and a voice. The Dura 2 Solar was unveiled on 22 October, with a 5.7 mm profile at the top.

The Dura 2 Solar gets a 3.5-inch screen

The 3.5-inch Memory-in-Pixel screen has an anti-glare treatment to stay readable in full sunlight. COROS presents it as 30% larger than the Dura 1’s, with 17% higher pixel density. The previous model made do with 2.7 inches, Cyclingnews points out. Cyclist gives a resolution of 336 x 620 pixels.

The global maps are controlled by touch: swipe, pinch and drag. It all runs on an Ambiq Apollo 510 processor. For navigation, the computer gives turn-by-turn guidance and recalculates the route if you go off course. Routes can be imported from Strava and Komoot, or built in the COROS app.

A computer that talks and listens

COROS has added a wind-protected microphone and a speaker. By voice, the rider can start a route, end the ride, ask for a reroute or skip to the next track. The computer, for its part, announces turns out loud.

The solar panel also doubles as a control: COROS has placed haptic-feedback buttons on it, where the hands naturally rest. The computer adds automatic safety alerts, crash detection and weather notifications.

120 hours of battery life, with the sun on top

COROS claims 120 hours of riding on a single charge, before any solar input. The official spec sheet states that the monocrystalline panel then adds 2 hours of battery life per hour of full sunlight. Cyclingnews notes that both figures are the same as the Dura 1’s. In dual-frequency GPS, the brand claims 70 hours, Cyclist specifies, adding that a full recharge takes 2.5 hours via USB-C.

The unit weighs 99 grams. It combines a woven carbon fibre back with a slim aluminium alloy bezel. COROS says it complies with UCI rules on the size of computers in racing, Cyclist reports. It connects to 15 sensors at once, over Bluetooth and ANT+, and works with Shimano, SRAM AXS and Campagnolo electronic groupsets.

The COROS Dura 2 Solar moves upmarket, and up in price

The step up comes at a cost. COROS’s European store lists the Dura 2 Solar from €499 to €549, with the €499 model supplied without a mount. Cyclist specifies that the €549 version includes an aluminium mount, sold separately for €79. The Dura 1 launched at $249, Cyclingnews points out. As of 22 October, the European store indicated it would be available soon and offered an email sign-up.
