Specialized is spinning its high-end electric mountain bike off into a go-anywhere version, the S-Works Levo 4 X, fitted with two integrated, patented racks, front and rear. The brand presents it as an adventure bike able to string trails together and carry kit for several days — to the point, it says, of replacing the car on some journeys. The mechanicals, for their part, do not change: S-Works 3.1 motor (850 W, 111 Nm), 840 Wh battery expandable to 1,120 Wh, carbon frame and 160 mm of travel at the front. The racks will also be sold separately for existing Levo 4 and Levo R bikes. Price for the complete model: €14,499.

An S-Works electric mountain bike is not, on the face of it, a pack mule. That is nonetheless the bet behind the Levo 4 X, subtitled “Electric Overland”: start from Specialized’s most high-end electric full-suspension bike and graft on two racks, at the front as well as the rear. The American brand does not see this as a simple variant of its Levo 4, but as a category of its own — the adventure electric mountain bike, built to string trails together, carry kit for several days and, on occasion, replace the car for some journeys.
A high-end Levo 4, with no mechanical compromise
Beneath the racks, nothing has changed. The Levo 4 X carries over the Turbo Levo 4 platform exactly as it is: an S-Works 3.1 motor rated at 850 W and 111 Nm of torque, fed by an 840 Wh battery integrated into the frame. As an option, a 280 Wh Range Extender takes capacity to 1,120 Wh. In that maximum configuration, Specialized claims up to 5 hours 30 minutes of range in Eco mode.
The rest of the spec sheet stays firmly at the very top of the range: FACT 11m carbon frame, 160 mm of travel at the front and 150 mm at the rear, mixed wheels — 29 inches up front, 27.5 inches at the back — and a GENIE shock developed with Fox. On paper, a genuine mountain bike before it is a load carrier.
Racks meant not to weigh the bike down
That is where the real novelty lies, in those two patented racks. Specialized’s idea was not to bolt two racks onto an existing mountain bike, but to make sure the bike stays manoeuvrable once loaded.
To get there, the brand says it suspended the load, so as to avoid the “suitcase” effect that makes a bike heavy and imprecise on descents. The rear rack runs from the seat tube towards the seatstays; the front one anchors directly to the fork. Enough to spread the weight rather than concentrating everything on the rear wheel — a decisive point as soon as the terrain turns technical.
More good news, for owners of a recent model: these racks will also be sold separately, as an accessory, for Levo 4 and Levo R bikes already out there. No need to buy a whole new bike to convert your own.
Mosko Moto, adventure and €14,499
On some of the images, the bags do not come from the cycling world: they carry the Mosko Moto name. This Californian label made its name in adventure motorcycling, where it kits out machines such as the KTM 690 or the BMW GS for long distances.
The choice is no accident. Specialized is not aiming at lightweight bikepacking but at loaded adventure: several days out, kit, climbing and terrain that is sometimes difficult. That is what makes the Levo 4 X intriguing — it is neither an urban cargo bike, nor a conventional electric mountain bike, nor a simple bikepacking bike, and it is trying to tick all of those boxes at once.
That leaves the price. At €14,499. For now, this is less an everyday vehicle than a showcase: of what Specialized can do when budget is not a consideration.
