Selwyn Trail Bike: a steel full-suspension MTB built in Samoëns, collected in person

IN BRIEF

Framebuilder Alexander Plaisted, based in Samoëns (Haute-Savoie, in the French Alps), is launching the Selwyn Bicycles Trail Bike: a full-suspension mountain bike in Reynolds steel, on 29-inch wheels, with 140 mm of rear travel and a 160 mm fork. Selwyn says the bike is collected in person at the workshop, and that the handover includes a ride on the trails where it was developed. The frame with shock starts at €4,650 and the complete bike at €8,850, for collection in spring 2027.

Alexander Plaisted has been building custom steel frames since 2016. The Selwyn Trail Bike is the result of three years of engineering, prototyping and testing, carried out with Dan Roberts of Garage Bike Project.

The frame combines Reynolds 853, 631 and 931 tubing, with 29-inch wheels at both ends. The Horst link rear suspension offers 140 mm of travel, paired with a 160 mm fork. The dropouts, the chainstay yoke and the seatstay pivots are 3D-printed in stainless steel.

The frame comes as standard with a FAST Fenix 2 coil shock, which Selwyn tunes to the rider’s weight before the bike leaves the workshop. The “House Special” build leans heavily on Hope, with Pro5 Fortus 30 wheels, GR4 brakes and Evo Wide cranks, around a RockShox Lyrik Ultimate fork and a SRAM Eagle 90 Transmission drivetrain.

The stated geometry keeps a 64.5° head angle across all four sizes, with a 79.5° effective seat angle (79.38° on the XL). Reach runs from 425 mm on the S to 505 mm on the XL.

A bike to collect in Samoëns

The brand states that the bike is collected in person at the Samoëns workshop, with a ride on the trails where it was developed. “I don’t offer delivery. That is the point,” says Alexander Plaisted. An order starts with a conversation, and the official product page indicates collection in spring 2027 for frames ordered now.

On pricing, Selwyn lists the frame with shock from €4,650 and the complete bike from €8,850. A custom build starts at €9,000.
