ABS is no longer the preserve of cars and motorcycles. Blubrake, the Italian supplier that already equips production electric bikes, unveiled its third-generation anti-lock system at Eurobike 2026, named NEO. This time the goal is clear: to move beyond the premium segment and target the mass market.
Smaller, cheaper
Blubrake presents NEO not as an evolution but as an entirely new platform, designed to fit into bikes more easily. Size, above all, changes things: the system now takes up less than half the volume of the previous generation, one of the main barriers to its adoption. Cost, too, has been brought down.
Compatible with the major motor systems
NEO can talk to several motor systems — Bosch, Ananda, Bafang — and to the most widespread hydraulic disc brakes, chiefly Shimano and Magura. The principle is unchanged: sensors analyse the behaviour of the front wheel in real time and modulate the caliper to prevent lock-up. The result claimed by the brand is a braking distance reduced by up to 30%.
A market Blubrake wants to widen
To scale up manufacturing, the company has raised €12 million from several investors. Its bet: that ABS becomes standard equipment on new electric bikes, as it has on powered two-wheelers. The unknown remains the price, which Blubrake has not disclosed.
