In 2024, German startup Veolo raised more than €100,000 on Kickstarter for its first bike trailer. Two years later, after more than three years of development running in parallel, it is back with a completely rethought version. Not an update: a redesign.
A 6.7 kg frame that holds 60 kg
The frame is made of AL6061 aluminium — a common material in serious trailers, strong and corrosion-resistant. Veolo claims 6.7 kilograms on the scales for a maximum payload of 60 kilos, a ratio of roughly 1 to 9. On paper, that is convincing.
The suspension is built on an elastomer platform that its designers describe as self-regulating and replaceable. The idea: absorb uneven ground without transmitting jolts to the hitch or destabilising the rear wheel of the towing bike. Clearance is sized for tyres up to 2.0 inches — enough for dirt tracks or broken-up roads.
A one-click hitch and a magnetic accessory system
The hitch is a one-click type — Veolo describes it as ultralight. The trailer detaches completely from the bike for transport or storage. It is hard to judge the strength and precision of the coupling without a real-world test, but the concept answers one of the classic criticisms levelled at trailers: how cumbersome they are to fit and remove.
Version 2.0 introduces a modular magnetic-mount accessory system. Veolo says numerous add-ons are available, without specifying the full list in the information published at this stage. The principle — adding or removing equipment depending on use — fits the claimed logic of a multi-tool trailer.
3.5 metres: the figure that changes the stakes
The most striking figure on the spec sheet: the trailer can carry objects up to 3.5 metres long. A surfboard, a kayak, a ladder, a length of timber — the range of uses goes well beyond what a simple luggage rack or most cargo bikes allow.
Our goal was to create a trailer that doesn’t feel like a compromise when riding, but like a natural extension of the bike itself.

Veolo explicitly positions the trailer as a Swiss army knife for everyday mobility, outdoor adventures and sport. That broader positioning is consistent with the 3.5-metre maximum length.
€490 early bird, delivery expected in December 2026
The Kickstarter campaign has been open since late May. The early bird price starts at €490 for the base model without accessories. Delivery is announced for December 2026.
The first version comfortably exceeded its target. This second campaign is aiming for around $140,000 — a higher threshold, in keeping with a more accomplished version.
