IN BRIEF

Trek unveiled the Inbound+ on 10 September, an electrically assisted city bike built around Bosch’s new Hub Line hub motor. The French spec sheet lists 45 Nm and 250 W, for assistance that cuts out at 25 km/h, with a removable, lockable 360 or 600 Wh battery. The range runs to six versions, in lowstep or stepover frames, from a Gates Sidetrack belt-driven single-speed to Shimano ESSA 8-speed and CUES 10-speed drivetrains. On the French price list, the range starts at €1,999 with the derailleur-equipped R8 versions, the belt-driven Inbound+ 2 B being listed at €2,149 for a claimed 18.40 kg in size M, without battery or pedals.

On the same day it revealed its Domane+ SL, Trek also unveiled the Trek Inbound+, an electrically assisted city bike whose whole point lies in what is hidden at the centre of the rear wheel.

The Trek Inbound+ takes on the Bosch hub motor

This is what is genuinely new about this bike: the Inbound+ is fitted with the Bosch Hub Line, the motor the German supplier houses in the rear hub rather than in the bottom bracket. Trek presents it as “the new Bosch Hub Line motor”, and its French spec sheet gives the three figures that matter: 45 Nm of torque, 250 W and assistance that stops at 25 km/h, as European regulations require.

That torque figure is worth pausing on, because the English-language site Notebookcheck put the figure of 85 Nm into circulation. Trek’s own page, for its part, states in black and white “Motor Bosch Hub Drive, 45Nm, 250Watt, Max. 25km/h”. That is consistent with the use Trek describes: the brand promises “a natural-feeling assist” and, for the Hub Line, “a dynamic, smooth assist”.

On the energy side, Trek offers two capacities: a 360 Wh battery and a 600 Wh one, both removable and lockable. According to the French spec sheet consulted on 12 September, it carries no range line; we are therefore putting forward no distance figure.

Six versions, from belt-driven single-speed to 10-speed

The range comes in six models: Inbound+ 2 B SO, 2 B LS, 2 R8, 2 R8 LS, 2 R10 and 2 R10 LS. Trek sums up the idea like this: “Inbound+ is available in multiple lightweight electric bike configurations, including lowstep and stepover frame options.”

The choice then comes down to the drivetrain. The B versions are single-speed, paired with a Gates Sidetrack belt: no derailleur, no chain to grease, maintenance kept to a minimum. The R8 versions get a Shimano ESSA 8-speed drivetrain, the R10 a Shimano CUES 10-speed. According to the spec sheet, the frame is aluminium and designed for 700c wheels; Trek also notes that “No matter which Inbound+ model you choose”, the bike comes with its mudguards, its lights and its MIK HD rear rack — a rack the brand says is “suitable for weights up to 27kg”, child seats included.

€2,149 and 18.40 kg for the belt-driven version

On the French price list, the two B versions — 2 B LS and 2 B SO — are listed at 2 149 €, recommended retail price. That is the starting price for the belt-driven versions, which Trek presents both for the “360Wh battery, single speed” configuration and for the “Internal gear hub + belt” option. On that same list, checked on 13 September, Trek shows the Inbound+ 2 R8 and 2 R8 LS at €1,999 and the 2 R10 and 2 R10 LS at €2,499: it is therefore the derailleur version, and not the belt-driven one, that opens the range.

As for weight, the Inbound+ 2 B LS spec sheet claims 18.40 kg in size M, battery and pedals not included. Trek attaches a usage warning to all these figures: “Weights are based off pre-production products at time of publication. Weights may vary in final production.”
