IN BRIEF
Bafang is pushing a new electric mountain bike motor, the M560RS, whose official spec sheet claims 120 Nm of peak torque, 1,700 W of peak power and a 150 Nm spike through a function called Boost-to-Limit. The unit weighs 3.3 kg and carries a six-axis inertial measurement unit tasked with detecting gradient changes, with a Sport+ mode that goes up to 500% assistance. Mind the timing: according to the German specialist press, the M560RS and its smaller sibling the M510RS were still concepts at Eurobike 2025, their production versions will only be shown at the Italian Bike Festival in early September, and production starts in the fourth quarter of 2026.
| Peak torque | 120 Nm (150 Nm in Boost-to-Limit) |
| Peak power | 1 700 W |
| Rated power | 250 W |
| Weight | 3.3 kg |
| Sensors | Six-axis inertial measurement unit |
| Maximum assistance (Sport+) | Up to 500% |
The figures for Bafang’s new electric mountain bike motor are doing the rounds: 1,700 W, 150 Nm. Yet the official spec sheet for the M560RS lists two separate torque figures, and the timeline reported by the German specialist press puts series production in the fourth quarter of 2026.
What the Bafang M560RS actually claims
Bafang’s product page states: “120Nm peak torque (150Nm Boost-to-Limit) and 1700W peak output handle the steepest, loosest, most punishing climbs.” The two torque figures therefore do not measure the same thing. The 120 Nm is the peak torque; the 150 Nm corresponds to Boost-to-Limit, a short-lived surge. Taking 150 Nm as the motor’s torque means confusing a momentary spike with the reference figure.
The rest of the spec sheet describes a 3.3 kg unit with 250 W of rated power, fitted with a six-axis inertial measurement unit — Bafang says a “6-axis IMU detects gradient changes instantly” — and a Sport+ mode which, again according to the brand, “delivers up to 500% adaptive assist”.
A motor that only arrives at the end of the year
In other words: what Bafang is detailing today is the production version of a motor shown as a concept more than a year ago, whose first public appearance is due in early September in Misano, and whose series production the same source places in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The positioning, at least, is clear. With 120 Nm claimed, Bafang is targeting the top end of electric mountain bike motors, a field where the Chinese manufacturer has been pushing for several seasons against European and Japanese players. The M510RS, part of the same Racing-Sport family, rounds out the range from below.
