L’The Alutech ePelmo X1P is an electric enduro mountain bike that the northern German manufacturer has designed around a newly announced motor: the Gobao X1P. Motor and gearbox share the same housing, and according to Velomotion the cassette and derailleur disappear entirely in favour of a Gates belt.
The Alutech ePelmo X1P hands gear changes to its motor
According to Velomotion, the X1P is the more powerful of the two variants in Gobao’s new X series: 150 Nm, 1,500 W peak, 3.85 kg and a magnesium housing, according to Alutech’s spec sheet. According to the same sheet, its continuously variable transmission, which Gobao calls ECVT, offers a 500% range and shifts automatically and progressively. A manual mode remains available. We had previously covered the principle of this Gobao transmission integrated into the motor; the ePelmo puts it into practice at Alutech.
On the energy side, the Gobao BT750FS battery stores 750 Wh for 3.6 kg. With the 30 A charger, Alutech claims 10 to 80% in 20 minutes. A unit housed in the top tube, the CCU, connects the bike to a smartphone: remote tracking, alarm, geofencing and unlocking via an app.
A frame redesigned around the motor
According to Alutech, the Gobao was not simply slotted into the existing Pelmo: the aluminium frame is a new platform. The brand has developed its own belt tensioner, integrated into the frame, and claims to be the first bike manufacturer to do it this way.
Velomotion details the geometry: HorstLink suspension inherited from the Pelmo, progression adjustable from 20 to 24%, a 62-degree head angle, a 78-degree seat angle and chainstays adjustable from 437 to 450 mm. The bike is certified in category 5 (jumps and descents above 40 km/h).
Fifty units welded by the boss
According to the product page, the Launch Edition is limited to 50 units, each one personally welded by Jürgen Schlender, Alutech’s managing director. It comes with 29-inch wheels or as a 29/27.5 mullet at the same price of €10,799.95, against €11,999.95 shown as the reference price. The frame kit drops from €7,499.95 to €6,999.95. These prices run until 15 October 2026. According to Velomotion, a freely configurable model is due to follow.
Buying off plan, with delivery in spring 2027
Alutech’s shop shows availability on 7 April 2027. According to Velomotion, Gobao presented the X1 and X1P motors at Eurobike in June 2026 and is targeting series production in February 2027. The German outlet reckons the ePelmo could be one of the first mountain bikes, if not the first, to ship with this motor.
Still, buyers are signing off plan: no review of the ePelmo X1P has been published to date, the motor has only been tested in prototype form, and the images published by Alutech are, according to Velomotion, AI-generated. At more than €10,000 for a transmission still at the prototype stage, with no test of the production model, the ePelmo X1P is aimed first and foremost at curious early adopters prepared to put up with teething troubles.
