Gtechniq, known for its ceramic treatments for cars, boats and bikes, unveiled a textile waterproofing spray called Fabric Proof on 20 August. Its formula is announced as PFAS-free, those fluorinated compounds that road.cc describes as banned, or at the very least under review by regulators. A rain jacket loses its water repellency. It is mechanical: washing, sweat and the rubbing of a backpack eventually wear down the surface treatment, and water stops beading and starts spreading. The usual response is to apply a waterproofing product — one whose chemistry is currently changing under regulatory pressure. Gtechniq unveiled its own on 20 August, under the name Fabric Proof.
A PFAS-free textile waterproofing spray
Fabric Proof’s central selling point lies in an absence: that of PFAS. These perfluorinated compounds, known as “forever chemicals” because they break down very slowly, were long the basis of water-repellent treatments. Road.cc describes them as banned, or at the very least under review by regulators, which is forcing the whole industry to reformulate.
Gtechniq’s usual territory lies elsewhere: road.cc presents it as “the brand behind ceramic coatings for cars, boats and bikes”. The move into textiles extends that expertise into a different market, that of technical clothing.
Ten washes claimed, and no tumble dryer
The headline figure concerns durability. According to cyclingindustry.news, the product “lasts up to ten wash cycles, three to four times longer than other fabric waterproofing products”. This is a claim from the brand, and nothing makes it verifiable at this stage.
The other practical point concerns how it is used. According to road.cc, some water repellents “can require heat activation, meaning a trip through the tumble dryer”. The outlet states that Fabric Proof does without: it simply needs spraying onto a clean garment and leaving to air dry for three hours.
Gtechniq also announces increased abrasion resistance on rub zones and antimicrobial properties. The product targets jerseys, bib shorts, softshell jackets, shoes and trousers.

Two sizes are offered, already on sale. Road.cc quotes £29.95 for the 500 ml bottle and £15.95 for the 250 ml one. As for coverage, cyclingindustry.news reports that Gtechniq Bike reckons “a 500 ml bottle is enough to treat four garments, while a 250 ml bottle can protect a long-sleeve jersey, a pair of trousers or tights and a pair of gloves”.
The official Fabric Proof page is online on the brand’s UK site, in stock and at the same prices as those noted by road.cc. The euro price could not be established: checked on 21 August, the brand’s shop blocks automated verification requests.
