Focus is reorganising its electric mountain bike range for 2027, starting by simplifying the names: the superscript suffix disappears, and decimal references such as “6.8” or “9.9” give way to plain numbers, JAM 8 or JAM 9. According to the two German outlets that detailed the announcement, three families remain in the catalogue — the JAM in all-mountain, the SAM in enduro, the THRON as a tourer — all powered by the fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX, whose maximum torque can be raised to 120 Nm through the Bosch eBike Flow app. The THRON gets a 720 Wh battery as standard, up from 600 Wh. A JAM LTD limited to 200 units tops the range at €7,499, with a Bosch Kiox 400C display recessed into the top tube.

Focus electric mountain bikes were called JAM², SAM² and THRON² for years, as opposed to the analogue JAM, SAM and THRON. For 2027, the superscript disappears — and the reason says a great deal about the state of the market.
Focus electric mountain bikes lose their superscript
Velomotion puts it bluntly: the superscript suffix goes away “because there will no longer be any non-motorised equivalents in future”. In other words, Focus no longer needs to set its electric mountain bikes apart from their analogue counterparts in these families, for want of analogue counterparts. The JAM² therefore becomes simply the JAM.
The brand is taking the opportunity to tidy up its model names. The decimal series — the “6.8”, the “9.9” — give way to plain numbers: JAM 8, JAM 9. The LTD tag is now used to identify limited-edition versions. Three families remain in the catalogue: the JAM in all-mountain, the SAM in enduro and the THRON as a tourer.
The same Bosch motor across the whole range
Under the frame, Focus stays with Bosch: according to Pedelecs und E-Bikes, every model gets the fifth-generation Performance Line CX. Velomotion states that its maximum torque can be pushed as far as 120 Nm through the Bosch app.
Travel figures are detailed by Pedelecs und E-Bikes: the JAM pairs 160 mm at the front with 150 mm at the rear, the SAM goes up to 165-170 mm, and the THRON stays at 140-150 mm. The same outlet notes that geometry and kinematics are carried over unchanged: the 2027 overhaul is about names, electronics and batteries. Both outlets do, however, report a change of suspension parts on the SAM 9, which gets a RockShox ZEB Ultimate fork and a Vivid Coil Ultimate coil shock.
The THRON moves up to 720 Wh
This is a concrete change for the rider. The two German outlets agree: the THRON, the touring-oriented version, drops its 600 Wh battery in favour of a 720 Wh pack as standard, with 800 Wh available as an option. On a bike built for long distances, the gain is far from cosmetic. The EQP versions, fitted with mudguards and a rack, also return to the catalogue. Velomotion adds that the THRON 9 comes with Bosch’s ABS system as standard, and the second outlet’s spec sheet lists Magura Luise Elite ABS brakes.
For the JAM and the SAM, on the other hand, the two German outlets give the same capacity: 600 Wh as standard and 800 Wh as an option. The JAM LTD, for its part, stays limited to 600 Wh.
A JAM LTD limited to 200 units
At the top of the range, Focus places a JAM LTD limited to 200 units, priced at €7,499 according to Pedelecs und E-Bikes. It carries a Bosch Kiox 400C display recessed flush into the top tube, an in-house one-piece carbon cockpit, a Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain and FOX Factory suspension. The JAM 9 and the JAM 8 also get this Kiox 400C integration in the top tube.
Below that flagship model, the catalogue runs from €3,699 to €7,499 RRP, based on the prices listed by Velomotion. The two announcements consulted on 19 August say nothing about availability dates.
