BH renews the Ultralight: a frame under 700 g and 12 % more aero efficiency

The BH Ultralight road bike enters a new generation: a carbon frame under 700 g, 12 % more aerodynamic efficiency and tyres up to 35 mm.

BH renews the Ultralight: a frame under 700 g and 12 % more aero efficiency

IN BRIEF

BH is launching a new generation of its Ultralight competition road bike. Its Toray T1100G carbon frame drops below the 700 g mark, 11 % lighter than the previous generation, although the brand gives neither the exact weight nor the reference size. BH claims a 12 % gain in aerodynamic efficiency, measured in simulation with the University of the Basque Country, and aerodynamic DNA inherited from the Aerolight (Kammtail profiles, integrated seatpost, optimised transitions). The frame takes tyres up to 35 mm on some models, and the 9.0 version with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 is listed at €8,499.90.

BH is renewing the Ultralight, its competition road bike. The brand says it has passed on to this new generation the aerodynamic DNA of its aero bike, the Aerolight.

A BH Ultralight frame under 700 g

Built from Toray T1100G carbon using HCIM (Hollow Core Internal Molding) technology, the Ultralight frame drops below the 700 g mark, 11 % lighter than the previous generation, BH writes, adding that it retains lateral and torsional stiffness. The brand publishes neither the exact figure nor the reference size for this weight.

BH presents its Ultralight as a competition road bike that combines the speed and aerodynamics of the Aerolight with the lightness and stiffness that define the Ultralight.

12 % aerodynamic efficiency claimed

The frame uses Kammtail profiles, an integrated aerodynamic seatpost and reworked transitions. BH announces that 12 % less power is needed at 60 km/h compared with the previous generation, a figure taken from a CFD simulation study carried out with the University of the Basque Country (EHU).

Every model gets a new integrated carbon handlebar designed by Vision, with a wing-shaped profile and angled 10° forward for a more natural position, the brand says. The seatpost uses a fully hidden clamp.

Tyres up to 35 mm and SRAM UDH hanger

The official spec sheet lists compatibility with tyres up to 32 mm, and up to 35 mm on some models. The 9.0 version comes with 28 mm Pirelli P Zero Race tyres. The frame uses the SRAM UDH derailleur hanger, with machined dropouts to save weight.

On BH’s French website, the Ultralight 9.0 with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 is listed at €8,499.90. MerKabici states that the bike is offered in three colourways and through the BH Unique customisation programme.
