Vittoria is expanding the Terreno range with new widths: 700×50c and 700×55c available on the T10, T30, T50 and T70 models. The Terreno T80 also gains a version in 700×50c. The new sizes bridge the gap between endurance gravel and XC mountain biking: a 700×55c is equivalent to a 29×2.25in in footprint. Announced price: $81.99 (USD) per tyre — a euro price has not been announced yet. Available with black or brown sidewalls depending on the model (T10 to T70).
Vittoria is opening up the sizes at the lower end of the Terreno range. The Italian brand is announcing 700×50c and 700×55c versions on four of its five gravel-endurance models, filling a gap between the 40-45 mm tyres common on gravel race bikes and light mountain bike territory.
Five models, very different profiles
The Terreno range covers a wide spectrum: from the T10, a light tyre with discreet knobs cut out for road and hardpack trails, to the T80, with a pronounced knobby tread for mud. What changes with this update is access to the maximum widths across almost the whole range. The T10 (tarmac/hardpack gravel), the T30 (mixed gravel), the T50 (off-road) and the T70 (wet conditions) therefore move up to 700×50c and 700×55c. The T80, for its part, makes do with a new 700×50c — the 55c is not planned for this model.
The brown sidewalls — the hallmark of a certain gravel tradition — are available on the T10, T30, T50 and T70. The T80, the most aggressive model, is dedicated to mud.
Why 50 and 55 mm now?
In millimetres of section, a 55c in 700 is equivalent to a 29×2.25in — a common size on cross-country mountain bikes. The line between wide-tyred gravel and light mountain biking has never been so blurred. Increasingly rough roads, the popularity of bikepacking-gravel set-ups with heavy luggage, and the emergence of mixed-terrain races (Unbound 350, Atlas Mountain Race) have pushed demand towards greater widths. Vittoria is following the movement after Maxxis, Pirelli and WTB, which had already expanded their gravel ranges last year.
A price in dollars, Europe to be confirmed
Bikerumor quotes a price of $81.99 USD per tyre — the same positioning as the rest of the Terreno range. Vittoria has not announced a price in euros for the time being. The brand is distributed throughout Europe; availability and the on-sale date remain to be confirmed on the official vittoria.com website.
Enough to give a second life to gravel bikes whose geometry and fork clearance allow 50 mm — without changing machines.
