Until now, the assistance modes on an electric bike have worked on a simple principle: the rider picks a level (Eco, Tour, Sport, Turbo), and the motor delivers a fraction of torque based on the power applied to the pedals. Avinox changes the paradigm. With the Smart Heart Rate Control System, it is the rider’s heart rate that drives the assistance level.
Any heart rate sensor will do
The system connects over Bluetooth to any compatible heart rate monitor — chest strap, sports watch, armband sensor. No proprietary equipment is required. Through the Avinox Ride app, the rider sets a target heart rate range (130 to 150 bpm, for example). Out on the ride, if the heart rate goes above the upper threshold, the motor increases its assistance to ease the effort. If it stays below the lower threshold, assistance drops to maintain a sufficient intensity.
In practice, it amounts to having a virtual riding partner constantly adjusting the resistance according to the heart’s actual effort, rather than to the force applied to the pedals. The philosophy differs from cadence- or power-sensor systems: what is being controlled is perceived effort, not the mechanics.
A Eurobike award in digital solutions
Shown at Eurobike 2026 in Frankfurt, the Smart Heart Rate Control System received the Eurobike Award in the Digital Solutions category. The jury praised a “genuinely new idea that goes beyond conventional assistance modes”, with assistance driven by real-time physiological signals judged potentially transformative for everyday use as much as for endurance cycling.
More than 60 brands involved
The system is compatible with the two Avinox motors on sale: the M2 and the M2S. The Avinox ecosystem now brings together more than 60 partner brands — among them Megamo, Nukeproof, Raymon and Rotwild — which represents a fleet of electric bikes already on the road that is potentially compatible, depending on the manufacturing date and the firmware version.
DJI has not specified whether the Smart Heart Rate Control System will require a firmware update or additional hardware for bikes already sold. The feature will be available through the Avinox Ride app; its rollout remains tied to the commercial availability date, which has yet to be announced.
Price and availability: not yet announced
Avinox has not provided a launch schedule or any pricing. The system was shown at Eurobike as a demonstration. For now, it remains to be confirmed whether the feature will be built into the existing app, offered as a paid option or tied to a new generation of motors.
For riders already using the Avinox Ride platform, the prospect of heart-rate-driven training without changing hardware — or sensor brand — is a significant differentiator in a market where raw power is starting to become a given.
