Stan’s is launching Rolled Gold, a tubeless sealant designed for road and gravel. A tubeless sealant works in very different conditions depending on whether it sits in a mountain bike tyre or in a narrow road tyre inflated to high pressure. It is this second case that Stan’s says it targeted with Rolled Gold, announced on 25 August: the official product page describes it as optimised for pressures above 50 psi, or 3.5 bar.
Stan’s Rolled Gold takes aim at high pressure
The official product page presents it as « a premium tubeless sealant, designed specifically for road and gravel tyres, optimised for fast sealing at pressures above 50 psi (3.5 bar) ». The brand states that the formula « repairs punctures up to 7.8 mm at 100 psi ». The same page also gives a working range of 35 to 100 psi and specifies that, designed to excel in high-pressure tubeless set-ups, Rolled Gold also brings increased protection « across a wide range of pressures ». It is natural latex in a water base, biodegradable according to Stan’s, and the formula is injected through the valve — so without removing the tyre for a top-up.
Less product, so less weight
The argument put forward by the brand is that of the dose. According to road.cc, Stan’s claims that 35 ml is enough in a 700 x 28 tyre, where 50 ml would be needed with Stan’s Original and 55 ml on average among rival sealants. The same article puts the saving at 30-40 ml over a pair of wheels, a gain it judges minimal itself.
Mike Bush, at Stan’s, sums up the promise in the pages of road.cc: « Rolled Gold is a high-performance road and gravel sealant that requires less material to seal and does so faster, making it the lightest and fastest sealant ever designed. » The superlative is the brand’s, not ours: no independent measurement accompanies the announcement.
Three bottles, and a launch price list in three currencies
Stan’s official store, viewed from France on 25 August, displays its prices in dollars: $5.50 for the 60 ml bottle, $11 for the 125 ml one and $29.50 for the 500 ml jug. It was indeed the dollar price list that the store served during that visit from France. For a European reference point, Bikerumor publishes the launch price list announced in three currencies, euro included: €5 for the 60 ml bottle, €10 for the 125 ml one and €27 for the 500 ml jug. These are prices announced at launch, distinct from the prices charged by the brand’s own store. road.cc, for its part, gives the British prices: £5.50, £10 and £27 depending on the volume.
The product is formulated, manufactured and packaged in the United States, as the product page mentions. Neither the brand nor road.cc gives a date for arrival in European distribution channels.
