Redshift Mousetrap: flat pedal adapters arrive for SPD-SL and Look Keo pedals

IN BRIEF

Redshift is extending its Mousetrap adapters, which turn a clipless pedal into a flat pedal, to Shimano SPD-SL and Look Keo road pedals, in addition to the SPD version. The adapter clips in by hand, with no tools, and provides an 80 x 105 mm platform for riding in trainers. A pair weighs 170 g in SPD-SL and 160 g in Look Keo. The road versions are on pre-order; the European product page lists €59.99 a pair, brought down to €44.99 by a 25% discount.

The Mousetrap is aimed at riders who head out on a quick errand on their bike with clipless pedals, without swapping pedals or carrying a second pair of shoes. The brand sums up the promise in one line: ride in any shoes, switching from clipless to flat pedals in a matter of seconds.

The Mousetrap clips into the road pedal

The adapter clips into the pedal mechanism, just like a shoe. It goes on and comes off entirely by hand, with no tools. Redshift says it stays locked in: it should release neither when you twist your foot nor under an angled load.

Once fitted, it sits level with the top of the clipless mechanism, the product page states. The platform measures 80 x 105 mm and is around 10 mm thick. It is moulded from glass-fibre-reinforced nylon, the same type of composite as that used in high-end mountain bike pedals, the brand specifies.

Road versions lighter than the SPD

A pair weighs 170 g in the SPD-SL version and 160 g in the Look Keo version, compared with 176 g for the SPD version. Built-in magnets hold the two adapters together in a small flat bundle that slips into a pocket or a bag. A Crankbrothers-compatible version is announced as coming soon.

The official product page lists four colours for the three versions, Black, Teal, Blue and Purple, sold in pairs. As of 5 November, the page showed the SPD adapters shipping immediately, while the SPD-SL and Look Keo versions were offered on pre-order, from a European warehouse. It listed €59.99 a pair, brought down to €44.99 by a 25% discount presented as an “Early Black Friday” sale.
