Maxxis bets on 32in with five new tyres and a brand-new compound

IN BRIEF

Maxxis is launching five 32in tyre models — from gravel to trail — and introducing a new compound, the Maxx Terra, presented as 30% more wear-resistant than the current Maxx Pro. The Aspen and Aspen ST are available now; the Forekaster and Dissector will arrive in the third quarter of 2026. Maxxis is thereby making a clear turn towards a wheel size that is gradually taking hold in XC and race gravel.

Until now, 32in was a prototype curiosity. A few pro teams were testing the format on XC circuits, manufacturers were releasing compatible frames in limited numbers, and tyre makers were staying cautious. This week, Maxxis is changing scale: five models covering three uses — gravel, XC, trail — all in 32in.

The Aspen AT, a newcomer to the XC family

The real novelty in the range, beyond the 32in size, is the Aspen AT. Maxxis gives it a more aggressive knob profile than the standard Aspen — more grip in mud and on roots — while keeping it in the XC category. The brand is targeting riders looking for a versatile four-season tyre rather than a dry-weather race tyre.

The Aspen AT is available in 29in and 32in right now. It is the model Maxxis puts forward as the headline of the announcement, with the rest of the 32in range presented in its wake.

The Maxx Terra, a compound that splits the difference

Maxxis is also introducing a new compound, the Maxx Terra, announced as 30% more wear-resistant than the current Maxx Pro. The positioning is deliberate: between the Maxx Speed (the fastest, the least durable) and the Maxx Pro (the most common), the Maxx Terra targets riders who want to last a full season without giving up rolling feel.

The compound is being introduced at the same time as the 32in range, but it will also be available on existing models — Maxxis does not yet say which ones in this announcement.

32in is taking hold, slowly but surely

The movement is accelerating: this week again, Alessandra Keller finished third in an XC World Cup round at Lenzerheide on a 32in Thömus Lightrider. Maxxis is now building a full range to support the trend. Frames compatible with 32in are multiplying at Trek, Thömus, Scott and others.

The 32in Forekaster and Dissector — the range’s two trail tyres — will not be available until the third quarter of 2026. Prices were not disclosed at launch.
