IN BRIEF
Mavic is launching the Comete Ultimate, an aerodynamic road helmet listed at €239 on its French product page, weighing 300 g in size M. Developed in the wind tunnel and through computer simulation, it is compared by the brand with the ten best helmets in the WorldTour: Mavic claims an average gain of 9 watts in the upright position and of 7.5 watts over the closest competitor in the aero position. Turbulators called AeroFlow account for up to 5 watts on their own, according to Mavic. On the safety side, it gets Mips Air Node Pro rotational protection.

Mavic is adding an aero helmet to its road range. The Comete Ultimate was designed in the wind tunnel and refined using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and the brand pits it against the ten best helmets in the WorldTour, which it outperforms according to its own measurements.
Comete Ultimate: what the wind tunnel promises
Mavic puts the average gain at 9 watts in the upright position, the one in which, the brand points out, riders spend most of their time. In the aero position, according to the official product page, the helmet gains 7.5 watts over its closest competitor. According to Rennrad-News, the measurements were taken at 50 km/h, in both positions. In terms of time, Mavic claims up to 11 seconds saved over a 50 km race compared with the best competitor.
The centrepiece is called AeroFlow: turbulators placed on the shell that speed up the airflow just before it separates from the helmet. According to Mavic, they alone save up to 5 watts.

Safety, ventilation and adjustment
The Comete Ultimate gets the new Mips Air Node Pro, which redirects rotational forces in the event of an impact. This Mips now includes Coolmax technology which, according to Mavic, improves moisture management and provides lasting thermal comfort. Ventilation comes from the AirChannel system, which links large front vents, deep internal channels and rear exhausts. Adjustment is handled by the new RS360 retention system.
Price, sizes and certification
The helmet is listed at €239 on Mavic’s French product page, with a claimed weight of 300 g in size M. According to TOUR, it comes in three sizes, S, M and L; Rennrad-News gives the corresponding head circumferences (51–56 cm, 55–59 cm and 58–61 cm) and states that, according to the manufacturer, it meets UCI requirements for road racing.
