IN BRIEF
Araxy is presenting the Erion, a magnetic chain damper for mountain bikes developed in Switzerland. Fixed to the chainstay with four straps, it holds the chain when it is slack, to limit chain slap on descents, and releases it as soon as you pedal. The rear unit comes in two angles, 6° and 12°. It sells for 129.90 Swiss francs, with delivery limited to Switzerland for now.

With the Araxy Erion, the brand is tackling one specific noise. Chain slapping against the chainstay is a familiar sound on rough descents. Araxy has chosen to answer it with magnets.
The Araxy Erion holds the chain, then lets go at the first pedal stroke
Araxy presents the Erion as a magnetic chain damper. When the chain is slack, on descents, it holds it to reduce slapping and unwanted movement. As soon as the rider pedals, the brand claims it releases it instantly, with no friction and no unusual feeling at the pedals. In the climbing sprockets, it stays out of the chain line.

On vibration transmitted to the pedals, the brand says it measured with Downamics, between 30 and 100 Hz, a result close to a chainless drivetrain: “Over long stretches it matches the chainless setup, and in places it is even lower.”
Two angles to follow the chainstay
Araxy explains that most chainstays sit at an angle to the chain line. The rear unit therefore comes in two offset angles, 6° and 12°. The brand says the Erion mounts with four straps and fits a wide range of chainstay shapes. The contact surfaces are wear parts and fully replaceable.
The brand claims compatibility with most modern mountain bikes, provided the gap between the chain and the chainstay is large enough and fairly even. It names exceptions itself: some high-pivot bikes with an idler pulley, such as the Commencal Supreme DH V5, and older Santa Cruz VPP suspension designs.
