Lemmo 3 APV: full-suspension longtail cargo bike heads to Kickstarter in October

According to the official specification sheet, the rear suspension offers 80 mm of travel, as much as the hydraulic fork. Lemmo presents it as the “Industry-First Rear Suspension for Long Tail” bikes. The sheet adds a suspension seatpost and tyres of around 65 mm, on a 24-inch front wheel and a 20-inch rear wheel.

The bike weighs 39 kg, according to Lemmo. It carries 200 kg in total, bike included: 120 kg for the rider, 80 kg on the 700 mm rear platform and 20 kg on the front rack. According to the brand, it adjusts to riders from 155 to 195 cm.

Lemmo 3: a 90 N·m motor and a 960 Wh battery

Lemmo claims 90 N·m of torque and 1,200 W peak for the Bafang rear hub motor. In Europe, it is limited to 250 W nominal and 25 km/h. Lemmo’s page contradicts itself on the exact model: the specification sheet lists a Bafang H550 (chain) or H732 (belt), the FAQ an H720 in Europe as well as in North America.

The 960 Wh battery uses semi-solid-state cells and weighs 5 kg, according to the specification sheet. Lemmo claims “Up to 180 km” of range. Its FAQ gives 100 to 120 km at maximum load and 20 mph (around 32 km/h, a speed of the North American versions), and around 140 to 200 km in normal daily use.

Gears that shift themselves, a radar watching the rear

According to Lemmo, the chain version pairs an electronic derailleur with automatic gear shifting, guided by several sensors. The belt version (+€169) relies on an automatic 3-speed gearbox integrated into the motor.

The specification sheet also lists a rear radar with a 100 m range and combined braking: according to the brand, each lever brakes both wheels. 4G GPS tracking is free for now, the FAQ states, and Lemmo reserves the right to charge for it later. As an option (€169), an inverter turns the battery into a 220 V socket, according to the specification sheet.

€1,890 excluding VAT, provided you reserve

The prices on the official Lemmo 3 page are excluding VAT, a Kickstarter rule according to the FAQ: the tax of the delivery country is added at payment. The recommended retail price is €3,390. For a €39.90 refundable deposit, Lemmo guarantees €1,890 for the chain version, i.e. €2,268 with French VAT at 20%, excluding shipping. According to the page, the public launch offer will be “significantly higher”.

According to Lemmo’s schedule, the campaign opens in October and closes in December, with first deliveries by April 2027, according to the current schedule. Shown as a prototype at Eurobike 2024, the bike now has a full specification sheet. It still has to get through crowdfunding, then onto the road.
