Wolf Tooth is offering its ALT XC clipless pedal in a cheaper Performance version. The ALT Performance keeps the concept of a double-sided pedal with an SPD-compatible mechanism, a small cage and a 534 mm² platform on which the shoe rests. The Minnesota brand intends it for trails and gravel roads. Full details are on the official Wolf Tooth product page.
An ALT Performance at €185, against the ALT XC at €250
As of 29 September, the official Wolf Tooth store listed the ALT Performance at €185 and the ALT XC at €250. The materials change too: the body is forged then machined aluminium, and the axle is satin nickel-plated chromoly steel. According to Escape Collective, Wolf Tooth has entrusted manufacturing of this Performance range to a specialist manufacturer in Asia, while the pedal is still designed and tested in Minnesota.
Another concession noted by Escape Collective: the ALT Performance loses the adjustable Q-factor. Its axle offers a fixed width of 55 mm.

Thinner than the XTR, according to Wolf Tooth
The pedal’s product page highlights its thickness: 15 mm, against 16.5 mm for the Shimano XTR 9200 and 18 mm for the Hope Union RC, according to the comparison published by Wolf Tooth. The claimed weight is 326 g, more than the 316 g given for the Shimano XTR 9200 in the same Wolf Tooth comparison. Escape Collective also notes that this 15 mm thickness and 326 g weight are slightly higher than those of Wolf Tooth’s higher-end ALT pedals. Wolf Tooth cleats come with the pedals, but standard SPD cleats also work.
The ALT Performance comes in five colours, black, raw silver, orange, red and gold, with a two-year warranty.
