IN BRIEF
Urtopia is launching the Carbon Fold 2 in Europe, a folding electric bike with a carbon fibre frame and fork, for €1,799, against a list price of €1,999. The brand, established in Europe through a Berlin-based subsidiary since 2022, is banking on a weight of 16.5 kg for a folding e-bike. The 244.8 Wh battery, integrated into the seat tube, promises up to 68 km of range, extendable with an optional second battery. In Europe, assistance is capped at 25 km/h, in line with the regulations on electrically assisted pedal cycles.

The Carbon Fold 2 is not an unknown quantity: Urtopia already sells it in North America. The folding electric bike is now arriving in Europe, with pricing specific to the market.
The Carbon Fold 2 banks on a carbon frame, rare at this price
On a folding electric bike, carbon remains uncommon: most rivals rely on aluminium to keep costs down, even if it means a heavier bike. Urtopia claims 16.5 kg (16.8 kg with the pedals) for the Carbon Fold 2, frame and fork included, less than most folding e-bikes with an aluminium frame.
The battery, for its part, is almost invisible: 244.8 Wh housed in the seat tube, rather than a pack grafted onto the rack or the down tube. A second battery can be added for longer journeys, extending the claimed range beyond 68 km.

Assistance capped to comply with European rules
The 250 W rear motor, which delivers 42 Nm and relies on a torque sensor to meter out the assistance, is the same on both sides of the Atlantic. The difference comes down to regulation: in Europe, assisted speed is capped at 25 km/h, as required by the rules on electrically assisted pedal cycles, against 20 mph (around 32 km/h) on the North American market.
For braking, Urtopia has gone with Tektro hydraulic discs, and for the drivetrain a Shimano 8-speed derailleur. Folded, the bike packs down into a volume of 690 mm high by 820 mm long and 480 mm wide.
