IN BRIEF

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published on 5 November a recall of about 1,950 Vevor BMX bikes, in 20 and 24 inch sizes, models SS24001 and SS24002. The recall notice states that these bikes are not fitted with the chain guard required by federal regulations: loose clothing can get caught in the drivetrain and cause a serious crash. As of 5 November, the CPSC notice listed no incidents. Owners should stop riding and contact the importer, Sanven Technology, which provides a free repair kit.

Why these Vevor BMX bikes are being recalled

The CPSC states that these bikes violate the mandatory safety regulation for bicycles because they are not fitted with a chain guard. The CPSC also states that these bikes violate the labelling requirements. It describes the hazard as follows: loose clothing can be caught in the chain, posing a risk of serious injury or even a fatal crash.

In the photo published with the notice, the defect is visible to the naked eye: the chainring and chain of the black BMX are completely exposed, from the crankset to the rear hub. A wide trouser leg can come into contact with the chain while riding: this is the loose-clothing hazard the notice describes.

How to tell whether your Vevor BMX is affected

The recall covers two specific references, models SS24001 and SS24002, with 20 and 24 inch wheels, imported by Sanven Technology Ltd. The CPSC states that the model number is printed on the packaging; the recalled bikes are black, with the Vevor logo on the down tube. In total, about 1,950 units are affected.

Stop riding, then repair

These BMX bikes were sold from October 2024 to April 2026 in Vevor stores and on vevor.com, in the United States, for between $152 and $188, the CPSC states. Owners are told to stop using them immediately and to contact Sanven Technology to receive the free repair kit.
