PNW Components is updating its flat pedals. The Loam Gen 3 has a 115 x 109 mm aluminium platform and, above all, a new axle that the brand presents as easy to service, certified by the testing body EFBE.
PNW Loam pedals certified for downhill
The product page states that the redesigned axle receives EFBE Tri-Test E-Gravity certification. PNW claims this makes them suitable for the most aggressive riding, on electric mountain bikes as well as downhill. The axle is made of SNCM220 alloy steel, the platform of aluminium, and the pedal measures 15.5 mm thick at both the front and the rear. The pair weighs 440 g, or 220 g per pedal.

Twelve pins that are replaced from the side
PNW keeps its Tectonic pin system, in SUS 630 stainless steel. The brand explains that it has reduced the number of pins from 22 to 12 per pedal: they pass vertically through the pedal body and are replaced using 2.5 mm screws accessible from the outside. The box contains two spare pins, two screws and two washers.
The Loam Gen 3 is listed at €172.95 on PNW’s online store, in five colours: Lightning, Moss Green, Blood Orange, Fruit Snacks and Blackout Black. The brand states that all its products carry a lifetime warranty.
