IN BRIEF

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS), North America’s show for artisan frame builders, is dropping the 6-8 August 2027 dates announced on 20 August. According to its press release of 23 September 2026, it is now aiming for early 2028, in the February-March period it occupied for most of its history. Its founder, Don Walker, explains that he learned another show would be held on the same weekend. The dates and location of the 2028 edition will be announced in the coming weeks, according to the organisers.

The return of the North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) will have to wait. In a press release dated 23 September 2026 in Argyle, Texas, the organisers announce that the show is leaving the 6-8 August 2027 dates unveiled by its founder and president Don Walker on 20 August. NAHBS is now seeking to secure dates in early 2028, in the February-March period it occupied for most of its history, according to the press release.

Two shows on the same weekend

Don Walker attributes the postponement to a calendar clash: “When I announced our return on Aug. 20, I believed we would be alone on the weekend of Aug. 6-8, but then I learned we would have two shows on one weekend”, he writes. “This is not a winner for anybody, and the last thing I want is to make exhibitors and attendees choose”, he adds. The 23 September press release says nothing about the identity of the other show. Cycling Industry News, for its part, notes that the MADE Bike Show will take place from 6 to 8 August 2027 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

According to Don Walker, the February-March period was in fact the one he had hoped for in 2027 when he began making arrangements at the start of the year. He adds that he has kept “the Austin weekend” for another project, unrelated to frame building, to be announced soon. On its website, NAHBS says it is considering dates in January, February or March, and invites builders to register their interest in exhibiting in 2028.

According to the press release, Don Walker, himself a frame builder, founded NAHBS in 2005, and the show moves to a different city each year. As for the reasons behind this return, he writes: “it’s not just me that wants to see NAHBS back”. He says that since the announcement he has spoken with builders across the United States and around the world, and that he has been humbled by their support. The press release also mentions a commitment to promote future industry leaders; Don Walker recalls that the show has always sought to showcase today’s builders and “developing the next-generation”.
