IN BRIEF
Specialized is adding an ultra-light variant to its Levo family of electric mountain bikes. The S-Works Turbo Levo R Ultralight drops to 18.8 kg while keeping a “full-power” motor, which the brand presents as its lightest full-power electric mountain bike to date. The slimming programme comes mainly from a smaller 600 Wh battery and a raft of high-end components. Expect to pay €13,999, for a limited run of 100 units worldwide.

Specialized keeps expanding its Turbo Levo range of electric mountain bikes. After the Levo R, launched earlier this year as the family’s short-travel model, the Californian brand is unveiling the S-Works Turbo Levo R Ultralight: a version built around a single goal, shaving grams everywhere without giving up a full-power motor.
The Levo R Ultralight drops to 18.8 kg
The figure is the central argument: a claimed 18.8 kg in size S3, against 21.16 kg for the standard S-Works Levo R. A good part of the difference comes down to the battery. Where the other versions carry an 840 Wh pack, the Ultralight makes do with a 600 Wh battery, 1.2 kg lighter — a package Specialized presents as livelier.
For longer rides, the bike remains compatible with Specialized’s 280 Wh range extender, which adds “up to 90 minutes” of range according to the brand. The frame itself does not change: FACT 11m carbon, 130 mm of rear travel, a 140 mm fork and 29in wheels.

The S-Works 3.1 motor in its beefiest form
As an S-Works model, the Ultralight gets the S-Works 3.1 unit, the top-of-the-range version of the in-house motor. It claims up to 111 Nm of torque and 850 W of peak power, against 105 Nm and 810 W for the standard 3.1. In other words, the slimming programme is not paid for on the motor spec sheet: this really is a full-power electric mountain bike, not a “light” model with a detuned motor.
A build entirely aimed at the scales
For the rest, Specialized has raided the very top of its catalogue. Trickstuff Direttissima four-piston brakes replace the usual callipers, the drivetrain runs through a SRAM XX SL rear derailleur, and the Roval Control SL VI wheels, built on Industry Nine Solix hubs with carbon spokes, are claimed at 1,275 g a pair. There is also a Fox 36 SL Factory fork, a Fox Float Factory GENIE shock, a BikeYoke Revive 3.0 dropper post and an S-Works Power Mirror saddle with a carbon shell and rails.
The S-Works Turbo Levo R Ultralight sells for €13,999, in a limited run of 100 units for the whole world. For the first fifteen days, it is offered only through Specialized’s own online store, before reaching dealers depending on stock. Full details are on the Specialized website.
