IN BRIEF

On 12 October MET launched the Parachute MCR 2, the second generation of its full-face helmet with a removable chin bar, designed for mountain biking, e-MTB included. It weighs 730 g in size M, in full-face mode. The announcement says it is 100 g lighter and 25 % better ventilated than its predecessor, with 24 vents. It is NTA 8776 certified and features a Mips Air Node Pro system. BikeBiz, which relays the announcement, gives a price of €370.

The MET Parachute MCR 2 is a convertible full-face helmet whose chin bar detaches thanks to the MCR (Magnetic Chinbar Release) magnetic system. MET aims it at mountain biking, e-MTB included, highlighting impact protection, ventilation and versatility.

The Parachute MCR 2 targets mountain-bike speeds, e-MTB included

MET’s announcement, relayed by BikeBiz, highlights the NTA 8776 certification, which it presents as tested at higher impact speeds than standard mountain-bike protection. It puts figures on the gap: 21 % higher tested impact speed, 43 % more energy dissipated and 10 % more certified coverage area. The helmet is also ASTM certified and incorporates the Mips Air Node Pro system against rotational impacts.

MET is still awaiting official data from the Virginia Tech laboratory.

Lighter, better ventilated, easier to convert

MET states that the Parachute MCR 2 sheds 100 g and gains 25 % in ventilation compared with the previous generation, as measured in MET’s wind tunnel, thanks to 24 vents and reworked internal air channels. The fit has been redesigned and the chin bar release mechanism revised: MET promises easier conversion, even with gloves on. The adjustable visor detaches in a crash.

The helmet comes in three sizes, covering head circumferences from 52 to 61 cm. BikeBiz lists it at £330 or €370, and points to pre-orders on the website of British retailer Extra UK, with stock expected next month.
