IN BRIEF
Decathlon is recalling about 1,150 Van Rysel GRVL AF gravel bikes in the United States, sold at REI from March 2025 to August 2026. The front wheel locknut can loosen during use, and the wheel can then become dislodged: a crash hazard. The notice from the CPSC, the US federal product safety agency, states “None reported” under incidents. It states that owners should stop riding and have the front fork inspected and repaired free of charge at REI.

Van Rysel’s GRVL AF gravel bike, from Decathlon’s in-house brand, is being recalled in the United States. Decathlon America, the US subsidiary based in San Francisco, published the notice on 8 October 2026 with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), under number 27-017. It covers about 1,150 bikes.
A Van Rysel GRVL AF recall over the front wheel
The CPSC writes that the front locknut on the recalled bikes can loosen during use, which can dislodge the front wheel or let it develop play over time, posing a crash hazard. Under incidents, the notice states “None reported”.

The notice lists four references, sold in sizes XS to XL: the GRVL AF Sword Brown (8911304), the GRVL AF Apex Beige (8911305), the GRVL AF Sword Pink (8911308) and the GRVL AF GRX Black (8929130). They were sold at REI Co-op stores and on REI.com from March 2025 to August 2026, for between $1,400 and $2,300. The bikes are made in China.
How to tell whether your bike is affected
The giveaway is a label. Recalled models carry a “Van Rysel Product ID” number beginning with 5, at the top right of the label stuck under the frame. The CPSC places it on the frame, near the bottom bracket, alongside the model name and a barcode.
The CPSC states that owners should stop riding immediately and take the bike to an REI store for a free inspection and repair of the front fork. The notice specifies that where no REI store is accessible, Decathlon’s customer service takes over.
As of 9 October 2026, the CPSC recall notice mentioned only bikes sold at REI in the United States. It says nothing about GRVL AF bikes sold in Europe.
