Omnium and Carhartt WIP launch a stainless steel Mini-Max cargo bike, limited to 150

IN BRIEF

According to Omnium’s announcement, this run is the Danish brand’s first collaboration with Carhartt WIP: a special version of the Mini-Max, its compact cargo bike. The frame drops the production chromoly for stainless steel, left under a clear coat: the welds and heat marks stay visible. Acid yellow and black run across the DT Swiss cargo wheels, the straps, the grips and the titanium-railed saddle, and the bike comes with MKS x Carhartt WIP XC-III pinned pedals. It will be sold in three sizes and in 150 units, from 24 September at 10am.

This is a display piece as much as a bike for racing through town. Omnium, the Danish maker of front-tray cargo bikes, and Carhartt WIP unveiled on 14 September what the announcement describes as their first collaboration: a Mini-Max dressed anew, its stainless steel frame replacing the chromoly of the production version.

Omnium’s Mini-Max moves to stainless steel

The starting point is the Mini-Max, Omnium’s short cargo bike: a 406 wheel at the front under a load tray, a 622 wheel at the rear. For this run, the brand has rebuilt the frame in stainless steel, where the catalogue model is chromoly.

The frame is covered with a clear coat which, according to Omnium’s spec sheet, preserves its raw look by leaving the welds and heat marks visible. The frameset in size M is quoted at 8.7 kg on the official spec sheet (including rack, head tube and steerer, fork, dropouts, cable guides, headsets and axles), for a complete weight of 19.5 kg in size M (including straps, kickstand and pedals) — steel cargo bike territory, not lightweight bike territory. The front tray takes a 50 kg load.

Acid yellow, DT Swiss wheels and pinned pedals

The rest of the build picks up the two brands’ colour code. Acid yellow and black appear on the DT Swiss cargo wheels, on the tray straps, on the lock-on foam grips and on the titanium-railed saddle. The wheels are co-branded DT Swiss U663 / 370 Cargo; the drivetrain is a single-chainring SRAM Apex 1 with 11 speeds, and the brakes are SRAM Level TL hydraulic discs.

The bike comes with dedicated pedals: MKS x Carhartt WIP XC-III “bear trap” units (the common name for flat pedals with pins), handled by Blue Lug Japan — a nod to Carhartt WIP’s BMX past. Those pedals will be the subject of a limited run sold separately, later, in a selection of Carhartt WIP stores and through Omnium’s channels.

150 units, on sale on 24 September

The run is announced at 150 units, in three sizes (S, M and L). The sale is set for 24 September at 10am CEST, only on Omnium’s website, in its Flagship stores and at a selection of the brand’s dealers.

On price, Omnium’s announcement page shows €4,500 incl. VAT for this Mini-Max, the same amount in sizes S, M and L.
