IN BRIEF

Schwalbe is offering two of its gravel tyres, the G-One RS Pro and G-One RX Pro, in the new 32-inch size, in 50 and 55 mm widths. Both versions carry the ETRTO designations 50-686 and 55-686. The brand says they will be at specialist retailers from April 2027, along with the matching inner tubes, and plans MTB tyres in the same size for the same date. It also points out that its rider Robin Gemperle won the XL category of Unbound Gravel 2026 on G-One RX Pro prototypes.

Schwalbe has just made two gravel tyres official in this new format: according to the brand’s blog, these are its first gravel tyres in the new size. Two models already established in the range, the G-One RS Pro and G-One RX Pro, make the switch in one go, and not in token widths.

The announcement, published on the German brand’s official blog, is explicit about the scope: Schwalbe is launching its G-One RS Pro and G-One RX Pro in 32 inches, in widths of 50 and 55 mm. Both tyres already existed in the usual gravel diameters; it is the wheel size that changes.

On the sidewall, this translates into two ETRTO designations that Schwalbe states in black and white: 50-686 and 55-686. The second number is the one that counts, since it refers to a bead seat diameter different from those of today’s gravel. In its coverage of the announcement, road.cc puts that diameter at 686 mm — a figure that Schwalbe’s own official page does not spell out.

On the expected benefits, the brand sticks to feel rather than figures. It writes that its test riders experience noticeably more stable handling and an increased sense of safety, and that on varied, rooty and rocky terrain, 32-inch tyres roll better, which provides more traction while also increasing comfort. No quantified gain, in watts or in seconds, accompanies these claims in the announcement.

Bikes from autumn 2026, tyres in April 2027

Schwalbe itself places its timetable in relation to that of frames: the first 32-inch gravel bikes are due to reach the market in early autumn 2026, and it is now, the brand writes, that it is presenting its first gravel tyres in the new size. In other words, the tyre maker is arriving behind the bike manufacturers, not ahead of them.

The format already has one feat to its name, and Schwalbe does not hold back from recalling it. According to the brand’s official page, its rider Robin Gemperle won the XL category of Unbound Gravel 2026 on G-One RX Pro prototypes.

“I still remember one observation clearly: compared to my normal tires, I quickly noticed I was faster through corners and had more control on every surface.”

Available in April 2027, MTB included

On availability, the announcement sticks to a single date: according to Schwalbe, the G-One RS Pro and G-One RX Pro will be at specialist retailers from April 2027, along with the matching inner tubes. Gravel is not the only category concerned, since the brand says it will also offer various MTB tyres in 32 inches, all available at the same date.

One sizeable unknown remains for the buyer: at the time of the announcement, Schwalbe’s page mentions no price, and no 32-inch product listing was yet referenced in the brand’s online catalogue. Between a wheel size that barely exists in workshops and a date set for April 2027, buyers will have to wait anyway before finding out what the entry ticket will cost.
