IN BRIEF
On 30 September Samsung unveiled its Galaxy SmartTag3, a tracker the brand says is around 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the previous generation. It claims up to 550 days of battery life in standard use and precise location from up to 60 metres in a straight line, with no obstacles, thanks to Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, currently limited to the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, S26 Ultra and S26 Plus. Samsung states that, for the first time on a SmartTag, it also works with an iPhone, with reduced features. Its Place Notification can flag a bike that moves away from its usual spot. The press release announces Korea from 7 October, then the United States at 29.99 dollars, with no date or price for France; Samsung Belgium’s press release gives a recommended price of €39.90 per unit.

A tracker helps you find a bike, not lock it. Samsung has clearly understood this: in the press release for its new Galaxy SmartTag3, the bike is among the example uses, alongside the pet that wanders out of the garden.
A smaller, longer-lasting Galaxy SmartTag3
The Galaxy SmartTag3 is nearly 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the previous generation, Samsung says. The brand claims up to 550 days of standard use and 790 days in Power Saving Mode, figures taken from its laboratory tests on a pre-production version, with the supplied CR2032 battery. The press release states that in this power-saving mode some features, such as Compass View, may become inaccessible, while the basic Bluetooth LE finding function remains available.
The casing is IP67-certified: it withstands immersion in one metre of water for up to 30 minutes.
A bike leaving its spot can trigger an alert
For a cyclist, the feature to remember is called Place Notification (Notification de zone in French). Relying on the Galaxy Find Network, it can alert the user when a bike moves away from its usual spot. Samsung presents it as a trial feature. The brand claims more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices acting as relays for this network worldwide.
A Lost Mode also works via NFC: a passer-by who scans the tracker with a compatible phone sees the registered contact details or a short message.
60 metres of range and the iPhone finally supported
Samsung says that, thanks to Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding, Compass View guides users to the tracker from up to 60 metres, around three times farther than the previous generation, and UWB refines the search at close range. It is limited to Galaxy devices running Android 12 or later that support UWB or Channel Sounding. Samsung states that Channel Sounding is currently limited to the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, S26 Ultra and S26 Plus, with other devices possibly supported in the future, and that the 60-metre range is measured in a straight line, with no obstacles between transmitter and receiver.
Another new feature: Samsung says that, for the first time in the SmartTag range, the tracker also works with iOS devices, via SmartThings Find. Compass View, the Ring Phone function and the Left Behind Alert are not available on iOS, however, Samsung points out.
Korea first, Europe later
The SmartTag3 will come in white and black. The French press release of 30 September announces a launch in Korea from 7 October 2026, then in the United States, before a gradual roll-out in other countries in 2027; it mentions neither France nor a price in euros. In the United States, Samsung announces it for early November 2026, at 29.99 dollars per unit and 99.99 dollars for a pack of four. In Belgium, Samsung’s press release gives a recommended price of €39.90 per unit and €129.90 for a pack of four.
