Continental's tube-type Grand Prix road tyre gets wider: after 28 and 30mm, a 32mm version joins the range, with casing and compound unchanged.

Continental adds a 32mm width to its Grand Prix road tyre

IN BRIEF

Continental is widening its Grand Prix road tyre, the tube-type model BikeRadar places in the mid-range, with a 32mm version. Until now the tyre stopped at 28 and 30mm, and the brand presents this width as an answer to demand for volume and comfort. The construction is unchanged from the range: a three-layer casing paired with Continental’s own BlackChili compound. Velomotion reports immediate availability at selected retailers; BikeRadar gives a recommended price of €45.95, while another German title, rennrad-news, published €48.95 on its side, and Velomotion, three days later, said the price had yet to be announced.

Continental is adding a 32mm version to its Grand Prix, the tube-type road tyre BikeRadar places in the mid-range — a width its tubeless sibling, the Grand Prix TR, already offered.

Continental’s Grand Prix goes to 32mm

According to Velomotion, the Grand Prix is now offered in a 32mm width. The German outlet recalls that the tyre had until now stuck to 28 and 30mm, and presents this third size as filling a gap for riders after volume and comfort.

Quoted by BikeRadar, Hannah Ferle, road product manager at Continental, explains the decision: “We are always striving to develop tyres to meet riders’ needs and ensure they are all catered for, which is why we are introducing the Grand Prix in a 32mm as part of our expansion of the portfolio in 2026.”

Three-layer casing and BlackChili compound

On construction, Velomotion describes a sturdy three-layer casing working together with Continental’s BlackChili compound — a combination aimed, according to the specifications relayed, at a balance between puncture protection, grip and low rolling resistance.

That is the logic of an unapologetically tube-type tyre, designed for training and everyday use rather than for race performance.

Price: three sources, three answers

On availability, Velomotion says the tyre is on sale now at selected retailers. On price, however, the sources disagree: BikeRadar writes that the tube-type Grand Prix 32mm carries a recommended price of €45.95, the same as the tyre’s other widths, while another German title, rennrad-news, published €48.95 on its side; Velomotion, three days later, still said the recommended price had yet to be announced.

Checked on 19 September, Continental’s press room was still silent on this width, and the official product page shows no price. The two figures available — €45.95 at BikeRadar, €48.95 at rennrad-news — are therefore given here for what they are: values reported by those outlets, without confirmation from the brand.
