Cane Creek launched the GXC on 5 August, a 2014 aluminium seatpost listed at $89.99 in the United States. The American brand claims 236 grams in 27.2 mm and 248 grams in 31.6 mm, for a total length of 350 mm and a maximum extension of 250 mm, with 10 mm of setback. The head takes round 7 x 7 mm metal rails as well as oval 7 x 9 mm carbon rails, and the hardware is entirely stainless steel with a three-way adjustment. Cane Creek has made its name on parts that move: headsets, shocks and above all suspension seatposts, from the Thudbuster to the eeSilk. The GXC, launched on 5 August, runs exactly counter to that reputation — it is a rigid seatpost, in aluminium, at $89.99.

The Cane Creek GXC seatpost in 2014 aluminium

Cane Creek specifies 2014 aluminium, a copper-based alloy noticeably less common on seatposts than 7075 or 6061. The finish is polished, available in black and in silver. According to the product page, weights come in at 236 grams in 27.2 mm and 248 grams in 31.6 mm, the two diameters offered.

The spec sheet lists 350 mm in length, a maximum extension of 250 mm and 10 mm of setback. Those figures fit gravel and hardtail mountain biking, where riders often look for a deep insertion into a short seat tube.

A head designed for adjustment

The head of the post is worth pausing on. It takes round 7 x 7 mm metal rails as well as oval 7 x 9 mm carbon rails — in other words, just about every saddle on the market, including the carbon models that normally require a specific cradle.

The hardware is entirely stainless steel, with what Cane Creek calls a three-way adjustment. Stainless steel is an unusual choice on a part where grams are usually shaved off with titanium or aluminium: it costs weight, but it forgives repeated tightening and damp, two classic enemies of a seatpost cradle.

Availability and price

According to Bikerumor, the GXC is the first rigid seatpost produced by Cane Creek, and it is distributed through a selection of dealers and partners, as well as sold direct on the brand’s website. At the time that product page was consulted, however, the post was shown there as sold out.

Cane Creek lists only the US price, $89.99. The page mentions no price and no timeline for Europe.
