IN BRIEF
Newmen is launching the Phase, a range of carbon MTB handlebars from XC to downhill, with 8° of backsweep and 8° of upsweep, an upsweep BikeRadar describes as unusually steep and which, the brand explains, helps position the wrists when riding aggressively. The VariGrip versions can be adjusted in width over 50 mm, without a saw, using compatible Newmen grips. MTB-News and BikeRadar announce €160 for the Phase XC-Trail, available now, and €165 for the Phase Enduro-DH, expected on 15 December 2026. Weight starts at 166 g.

Cutting a carbon handlebar with a saw is a move you cannot undo. Newmen offers a way around it with the Phase, a new range of carbon MTB handlebars covering everything from XC to downhill, some versions of which can be adjusted in width over 50 mm, without a saw. BikeRadar finds its shape unusual.

A Newmen Phase carbon handlebar adjustable without a saw
The VariGrip system, offered as an option, lets you change the effective width of the bar by 50 mm. MTB-News describes how it works: a graduated scale allows the width to be adjusted continuously, by loosening the clamp, turning the grip, then tightening again. These versions require compatible Newmen grips, Resia, Slat or Blok, available in several profiles, thicknesses and rubber hardnesses.
In fixed width, the Phase XC-Trail measures 760 mm and the Phase Enduro-DH 800 mm. BikeRadar lists VariGrip versions adjustable from 710 to 760 mm for the XC-Trail and from 760 to 810 mm for the Enduro-DH. MTB-News specifies that VariGrip costs nothing extra.

8° of backsweep, 8° of upsweep
The Phase’s design comes down to two figures: 8° of backsweep and 8° of upsweep. BikeRadar writes that this upsweep is “unusually steep” and reports that, according to Newmen, it helps position the wrists when riding aggressively. The XC-Trail comes with 10 or 25 mm of rise, the Enduro-DH with 25 or 40 mm. BikeRadar specifies that 31.8 and 35 mm clamp diameters are offered.
BikeRadar announces a starting weight of 166 g, for the fixed-width version with a 35 mm clamp, 760 mm width and 10 mm of rise. At the other end, the VariGrip version with a 35 mm clamp and 40 mm of rise weighs 209 g.
The Phase XC-Trail is available now at €160, and the Phase Enduro-DH will follow on 15 December 2026 at €165, MTB-News and BikeRadar report.
